The initial phase of the partnership between the Mauritanian Hydrocarbons Company (SMH) and Sonatrach was successfully launched at the start of the third week of May 2025.
This inaugural stage has seen the deployment of a first group of SMH staff to the Algerian Petroleum Institute where they will undertake a training programme. Training combining a theoretical instruction with hands-on practical experience within Algeria’s petroleum facilities.
The SMH-RH first training is a part of a broader efforts to facilitate the transfer of expertise and the development of technical skills for the benefit of SMH’s whole employees. It marks the first tangible implementation of an ambitious partnership agreement signed, in Algiers on 30th January 2025, by the two companies, which is structured around three strategic pillars: training, exploration, and refined hydrocarbons storage and distribution— key areas for building a lasting and mutually beneficial collaboration.
