His Excellency Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, President of the Republic, chaired a meeting of the Council of Ministers on Wednesday, July 8, 2026.
During the session, His Excellency the Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Mr. Mohamed Ould Khaled, presented a proposal requesting authorization to award exploration contracts to Murphy Oil Corporation and Chariot Energy Group for three offshore blocks in the coastal basin.
This request aligns with the government’s ongoing strategy to develop and commercialize the nation’s hydrocarbon wealth. The goal is to drive new discoveries and maximize the oil sector’s potential by securing partners with strong technical and financial backing.
