On November 27th, 2024, The Director General of SMH, Mr. Ismail Abdel Vetah, signed the Heads of Terms (HoT) for the Banda Gas Sales Agreement (GSA) with Go Gas and Somelec.
The signing ceremony took place at the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum’s premises, under the leadership of His Excellency Mohamed Ould Khaled, Minister of Energy and Petroleum. This signing marks the conclusion of several months of negotiations between the upstream partners, SMH and Go Gas, and the buyer party Somelec to reach a balanced agreement that meets the country’s energy needs while supporting the development of the Banda project
The signing of the Heads of Terms (HoT) for the gas sales agreement (GSA) represents a major milestone for the Banda Gas Field project, which aims to provide natural gas to the electricity sector in Mauritania. This project is critical to meeting the growing energy demand and reducing energy costs in the country. It aligns with a strategic vision to ensure energy security while supporting Mauritania’s economic growth. The Banda project has proven recoverable reserves estimated at around 1 Tcf (trillion cubic feet), with an expected production rate of 80 to 100 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) over a period of 20 years.
