Cape Town, South Africa, 15 October 2026

The Société Mauritanienne des Hydrocarbures (SMH) is taking part in African Energy Week (AEW) 2026, being held from 12 to 17 October in Cape Town, South Africa. This participation forms part of the company’s ongoing development efforts and reflects its ambition to strengthen its position in the African and international energy sectors.

SMH is represented at this major event by a high-level delegation led by its Chief Executive, Dr Mohamed Lemine Raghani. The delegation also includes Mr Taleb Khyar C.M. Vadel, Adviser for Projects; Mr Mohamed Salem Moutaly, Adviser for Business Development; Mr Abdallahi Ahmed Salem, Director of Upstream Operations; and Mr Mohamed Ahmed Iyahi, Geological Engineer.

The delegation arrived in Cape Town on 12 October and attended the official opening ceremony of African Energy Week on 13 October. This leading industry gathering brings together key players in the energy sector, including oil and gas companies, investors, public institutions, and technical and financial partners.

On the sidelines of the official programme, the SMH delegation held a series of meetings and discussions with major industry players, including Murphy, BP, Petrobras, Gaffney Cline, Golar, Beicip and ONHYM. These discussions provided an opportunity to explore prospects for cooperation, strengthen relationships with industry partners and highlight the opportunities offered by Mauritania’s oil and gas potential.

Through these meetings, SMH seeks to develop new partnerships and identify areas of collaboration that can support its development ambitions while helping to maximise the value of the country’s hydrocarbon resources.

SMH’s participation in African Energy Week 2026 reflects its commitment to promoting Mauritania’s hydrocarbons sector as an attractive destination for investment, strengthening cooperation with international industry players and creating new opportunities for investment and cooperation in support of the country’s energy development.

By taking part in this international gathering, SMH reaffirms its commitment to actively advancing energy cooperation across Africa and internationally, with a view to the sustainable development of Mauritania’s hydrocarbon potential.
