The General Manager of the Société Mauritanienne des Hydrocarbures (SMH) Dr Mohamed Lemine RAGHANI received today Mr. Paul Hueper, Director of the Office of the Energy Supply Chain at the U.S. Department of State, for discussions on strengthening energy cooperation between Mauritania and the United States. The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views on the development of Mauritania’s energy sector and to explore new avenues for collaboration in support of the country’s long-term energy security and industrial development.
During the meeting, the General Manager highlighted Mauritania’s significant energy potential and reaffirmed SMH’s strategic role in developing the country’s natural gas resources, supporting future power generation, promoting low-carbon energy solutions, and contributing to the national industrialization agenda. He emphasized that flagship projects such as Grand Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) and Banda represent major opportunities to provide reliable, affordable, and competitive energy that will underpin future economic growth.
Both parties welcomed the longstanding partnership between SMH and U.S. companies, and expressed their shared interest in expanding cooperation through investment, technology, and technical expertise. The discussions reaffirmed the commitment of Mauritania and the United States to strengthening their strategic partnership in the energy sector and to identifying practical opportunities for collaboration that will generate long-term benefits for both countries.
